Lisebergsappen

A new mobile app for Liseberg — Scandinavia’s biggest amusement park.

2018-Nu

Background

Liseberg is Sweden’s most visited amusement park and the pride of Gothenburg city. Every year the park welcomes around three million visitors.

During 2017 Liseberg launched their new, award winning website — a first step in a digital campaign aimed to strengthen the brand, offer inspiration and help facilitate planning and purchasing prior, during and after the visit. Behind the project were our friends at Creuna. When it, the following year, was time for the park’s mobile apps to get the same treatment Liseberg and Creuna turned to Varvet for assistance.

What we did

At the start of the project Creuna conducted a thorough pre-study where the plan for the new app was developed. The goal was to build an app that was closely connected with the website, strengthened the brand, and was easy to maintain and use.

Varvet’s role was to provide mobile development and design, while Creuna handled project management, backend development and UX.

The app was made native for iOS and Android, meaning the code base is future proof and ensuring the best possible experience for the users. Swift was used for the iOS app while the Android version was developed in Kotlin.

Result

The new mobile app makes it easier and more fun to visit the amusement park. In an app that permeates Liseberg’s brand, the park’s visitors can, among other things, follow queue times, explore the attractions, navigate a map of the park and store their annual pass digitally. The close integration with the website means that the content in the app is always up to date and in sync — no extra administration needed.

In conjunction with season opening 2019 the app was updated with a new feature. A section for Superfyran was introduced, letting vistors challenge each other and collect badges in the app by scanning QR codes placed at the exits of each of the parks four big roller coasters.
