Dockspot

A service that lets you book marina berths online.

Hero dockspot

Background

Dockspot helps boat owners plan their vacations by offering booking of berths in marinas in ten different European countries. The company was founded in 2009 as a result of a high level of demand from people wishing to plan and pre-book their boating holidays online.

As the service grew Dockspot’s original platform started to show its age — it was slow, required a lot of administration and no longer covered the users needs. They turned to Varvet for help.

What we did

The project started with a pre-study where Dockspots’ old platform was analyzed and the goals for the new version was established. To better understand the needs of the boat owners that use the service a user study was conducted.

We analyzed the business sector to build us a better understanding of the problem and drew inpspiration from other products, projects and experiences to find new possibilities.

During the next phase Varvet developed wireframes, contept designs and a roadmap for the project. This gave us something conrete to discuss around and helped us get a shared understanding of the amount of work that was needed.

Our team of developers and designers worked closely togheter with the client, with constant communication and continous sign off on new features.

Result

Dockspot 2.0 is a completely new booking site with an updated admin tool for the marinas, and a new user interface that makes it quicker and easier to book a berth. The new platform allows Dockspot to scale up the service so that it can be used by more marinas, while also saving time that previously had to spent on administration.
